What types of content can I send via text message?

Currently, the DialLink app and web only support plain text messages (no images or attachments). Support for MMS will be available soon.

The following types of content and messaging categories are not allowed on DialLink:

High-risk financial services

  • Payday loans

  • Short term high-interest loans

  • New loan solicitations

  • Student loans

  • Cryptocurrency

  • Stocks and investment platforms

  • Third-party loans (e.g., auto, mortgage. “Third-party” refers to loans originated by any party other than the one servicing the loan)

Third-party lead generation services

  • Companies, NGOs or political campaigns that buy, sell, or share consumer information.

  • Affiliate lending

  • Affiliate marketing

  • Deceptive marketing

Debt collection or forgiveness

  • Debt consolidation

  • Debt reduction

  • Debt relief

  • Credit/debt repair

  • Third-party debt collection (“Third-party” refers to any party other than the one owed the debt. For example, a hospital may send messages regarding bills for its own patients—assuming proper opt-in consent—but third-party debt collectors may only send transactional messages that consumers have directly opted into. SMS cannot be used to collect debts).

“Get Rich Quick” schemes

  • Deceptive work-from-home programs

  • Risk investment opportunities

  • Pyramid schemes

  • Mystery Shopping

  • Multi Level Marketing (MLM)

This is distinct from compliant employment outreach, brokerages messaging their members, investment news alerts, or other investment-related communications that adhere to proper opt-in practices.

Illegal substances/articles

  • Cannabis: Cannabis is federally illegal in the United States. Cannabis businesses are not permitted to use SMS/MMS messaging in the US and Canada, regardless of message content.

  • CBD: While CBD is federally legal, it is subject to varying legal restrictions across US states. As a result, US carriers do not allow messaging related to CBD.

  • Fireworks: Fireworks are regulated products, and messaging related to them is not permitted by US and Canadian carriers.

  • Kratom

  • Vape/E-cigarettes

  • Paraphernalia products

Cannabis, CBD, Kratom, or drug paraphernalia product businesses are prohibited from utilizing SMS/MMS messaging on DialLink in the US and Canada, regardless of content. These restrictions apply regardless of the federal or state legality. All use cases All use cases, including 2FA purposes, are disallowed for such entities.

Prescription drugs

  • Any drugs requiring a prescription (Offers for drugs that cannot be sold over the counter in the US or Canada are forbidden).

Gambling

  • Casino apps

  • Gambling websites

  • Sweepstakes

  • 50/50 Raffles

  • Contests

  • Betting/Sports picks

Gambling traffic is prohibited in the US and Canada on all number types, including toll-free, local numbers.

"S.H.A.F.T." use cases

Messaging that promotes any of the following is prohibited:

  • Sex

  • Hate

  • Alcohol*

  • Firearms

  • Tobacco

  • Vape / E-cigarettes

*Note: Alcohol-related traffic is allowed on Toll Free, Short Code, and Long Code in the US, provided proper age-gating procedures are implemented.
