Toll-free messaging verification is a required process for sending SMS and MMS messages from toll-free numbers to recipients in the U.S. and Canada. It applies only to toll-free numbers, such as numbers starting with 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, or 888.
During verification, you share details about your business and how you plan to use text messaging. Carriers review this information to confirm that your messages are legitimate and that recipients have agreed to receive them. Once your number is verified, you can send messages with better deliverability and less risk of carrier filtering.
Who needs to complete verification?
You need to verify a toll-free number if you plan to use it to send SMS or MMS messages to U.S. or Canadian recipients. This applies to:
Businesses setting up text messaging on a new toll-free number
Businesses already texting from a toll-free number that hasn't been verified yet
Every toll-free number you want to use for messaging, since verification is completed per number
You don't need toll-free verification if:
You only use your toll-free number for calls

Why Is verification required?
Carriers introduced toll-free verification to reduce spam and protect recipients from unwanted messages. Verification helps carriers identify who is sending messages and why.
As of January 31, 2024, messages sent from unverified toll-free numbers are blocked. If your number isn't verified, your messages won't reach recipients.
